12-Year-Old Girl Killed, Three Adults Injured in Baltimore Shooting Near Youth Football Event

A 12-year-old girl lost her life and three adults were wounded after two individuals allegedly initiated gunfire during an altercation adjacent to a youth football game in Baltimore, Maryland, officials confirmed on Saturday.

The young girl was reportedly caught in the crossfire at Leon Day Park, where a local youth football league was hosting its homecoming celebration, Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley stated during a press briefing.

According to Commissioner Worley, the two men are believed to have been involved in a dispute that originated over a parking space.

"What we know is that there was some type of argument between two cowards, and of course, they both opened fire on each other," Worley said, adding, "In the crossfire, a 12-year-old little girl who was probably down there watching football was shot and killed."

Ongoing Investigation and Victim Status

As of Saturday evening, law enforcement authorities were actively searching for at least two suspects, described as adult men. No arrests had been announced by late Saturday night.

Officers discovered a 25-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound at the scene, alongside the 12-year-old girl. Both were transported to a hospital, where the girl was later pronounced deceased.

Separately, a 28-year-old man and a 23-year-old man presented themselves at area hospitals seeking treatment for gunshot wounds, police reported. All three surviving victims were listed in stable condition.

Community Outcry and Call for Information

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott reacted with profound emotion to the incident, emphasizing that the tragedy unfolded because two adults resorted to firearms instead of resolving an argument peacefully.

"Two grown men got into an argument and now a 12-year-old is gone," Mayor Scott lamented. He further described the event as "one of the most disgusting things I've ever seen in my life."

Mayor Scott underscored the deep impact the girl's death would have on the community, extending his condolences to her grieving family.

"We're never gonna see her full potential," he stated. "Her family's gonna be hurting for this for the rest of their life. Her classmates are going to be hurting, her community's going to be hurting."
