Following an emotionally charged contest against former coach Lane Kiffin and LSU, the Ole Miss Rebels traveled to Gainesville to face the Florida Gators at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
While the atmosphere might not have matched the intensity of the previous week, the matchup presented a formidable challenge. The Gators entered the game ranked No. 21 nationally, while Ole Miss arrived as the No. 4 team in the country.
From the outset, however, it was Florida that dictated the pace of play.
Initial Dominance in Gainesville
Gators running back Jadan Baugh initiated the scoring with a short touchdown run. Kicker Patrick Durkin successfully converted the extra point and later added a field goal, extending Florida's early lead.
Ole Miss finally registered points with a field goal early in the second quarter, followed by another late in the half. These two field goals, however, were separated by another rushing touchdown from Baugh, allowing the Gators to take a 17-6 advantage into halftime.
The offensive output truly escalated in the second half.
Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss found the end zone with a rushing touchdown on his team's opening drive of the third quarter. Florida swiftly countered, with running back Duke Clark scoring his own rushing touchdown to maintain the Gators' lead.
Ground Game Powers Gators' Offense
Florida's ground attack proved to be the cornerstone of their success, accumulating an impressive 302 rushing yards for the game. Both Jadan Baugh and Duke Clark surpassed the 100-yard mark individually, a feat not achieved by two Gators running backs in the same game since 2022.
The Gators held the lead for the entire duration of the contest, ultimately pulling away decisively in the fourth quarter. Their seven trips to the red zone throughout the game resulted in scores, with their lone passing touchdown occurring in the final period.
Florida's offense has demonstrated considerable firepower this season, scoring over 50 points in all but one outing. The exception was a 44-point performance against Auburn the previous weekend. This particular victory, however, is expected to garner significant national attention for the program.
Impact on Rankings and Upcoming Schedule
This win marks Florida's first triumph over a top-5 ranked opponent since their victory against Georgia in 2020. The outcome is undoubtedly poised to create a shake-up in the national rankings.
Looking ahead, the Gators will now prepare to face the No. 19 Missouri Tigers. Meanwhile, Ole Miss will have a couple of weeks to regroup before their next scheduled contest against Vanderbilt.
