John Bradshaw Layfield (JBL), a distinguished member of the WWE Hall of Fame, is venturing into the social media landscape, aligning himself with the newly launched platform BZZR. This move marks a significant step for the veteran professional wrestler into the digital engagement sphere.
BZZR is positioned as an innovative social media platform designed to bring sports fans together while minimizing irrelevant content. The company has already attracted several prominent figures from the wrestling world, including MVP, Kayla Becker, and Dwayne Swayze, further strengthening its roster of personalities.
Motivations Behind the Partnership
Layfield shared insights into his decision to join BZZR, citing a personal connection and the platform's unique approach.
I got a good friend, I call him ‘Shooter’ (Chris) Dunn. He’s been with WWE before. He’s now with BZZR. BZZR seems like a great platform. I’m a huge Texas Rangers fan and the Rangers have partnered with BZZR. My grandfather was blind but before he passed away and for several years he used to listen to the Rangers on the radio every afternoon and every night and I’d go over and sit there with him. I’m huge Ranger fan because of that and they’re working with BZZR so it kinda got my interest because the Texas Rangers are involved with them but it seems like such a wonderful platform so I’m glad to be involved.
His lifelong allegiance to the Texas Rangers, intensified by shared moments listening to games with his grandfather, played a pivotal role in piquing his interest, especially given the team's existing partnership with BZZR.
A Platform for Authentic Sports Engagement
A key aspect of BZZR that particularly resonated with Layfield is its commitment to being exclusively about sports.
BZZR describes itself as “the world's first streaming and social media platform built exclusively for sports without any nonsense or slop.”
Layfield also expressed strong support for the platform's emphasis on user accountability, requiring individuals to use their real names and profile pictures. He believes this approach helps to curb disruptive behavior often seen on other social media sites.
It’s unbelievable. I don’t know what you do with the social media but the one thing BZZR is doing, which is great, I think you have to have your name on there, you have to have your picture. The people that hide behind psyedonyms or can become keyword warriors – it gives people a voice that some should not have a voice. Some should but some should not.
Throughout his illustrious career, Layfield achieved significant milestones in professional wrestling, including becoming the 20th Triple Crown champion and the 10th Grand Slam champion in WWE history. Beyond his in-ring accomplishments, he has also served as a commentator for AAA Lucha Libre Worldwide.
