Luxury Fashion Designers Found Dead in Berkeley; Family Details Troubling Lead-Up to Tragedy

Michelle Min and Barry Walker, the entrepreneurial husband and wife duo behind the established California luxury clothing brand Bryn Walker, were discovered fatally shot outside their Berkeley hillside home. Family members have reportedly shared disturbing details regarding the days leading up to their deaths.

Family Describes Preceding Events

Paul Min, Michelle Min's brother, conveyed to the Los Angeles Times his belief that Barry Walker tragically shot his sister before taking his own life. Law enforcement officials have not corroborated this account.

Paul Min detailed a concerning deterioration in his brother-in-law's state following alleged losses of millions of dollars in speculative financial ventures. He characterized Walker as "the most honest, responsible, hardworking guy you have ever known" and expressed profound difficulty reconciling the suspected violence with the man he had known and loved for nearly four decades.

According to Paul Min, he and his sister agreed that Barry Walker required psychiatric intervention after Walker reportedly suggested that all three of them "end things." Michelle Min was in the process of arranging psychiatric admission for her husband on the very day of the shooting, her brother informed the publication.

Authorities have not confirmed the family's assertions regarding Walker's mental health, financial setbacks, or a potential motive for the incident.

Ongoing Law Enforcement Investigation

Berkeley police officers responded to an address on Panoramic Way shortly after 10:30 a.m. on Friday, where they located a man and a woman suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers immediately initiated life-saving measures until paramedics arrived, but the couple was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Oakland Police Department, which is spearheading the investigation, recovered a firearm from the scene. Investigators have not definitively ruled out a murder-suicide scenario nor have they determined who discharged the weapon. The police have also not confirmed any of the family's claims concerning Walker's mental health, financial losses, or a possible motive.

Legacy of the Bryn Walker Brand

The couple first met in Kansas during the 1980s. They later relocated to California, following Min’s parents, and subsequently established their clothing enterprise in Berkeley.

The Bryn Walker brand has been headquartered in Berkeley since 1992, with all its designs and production taking place within the San Francisco Bay Area, as stated on the company's website. The brand reports operating six company-owned retail locations and supplying its apparel to approximately 1,000 boutiques across the nation.

The company's store directory indicates two locations in Berkeley, California, and an additional shop situated in Vineyard Haven, Massachusetts, on Martha’s Vineyard.
