Sami Zayn heads into the upcoming Night of Champions event with a clear grievance. For weeks, Zayn has voiced his displeasure regarding Cody Rhodes being perceived as the “golden boy” and Gunther receiving an Undisputed WWE Championship opportunity before him. His frustration has manifested in various ways, including interfering in a special guest referee match and generally disrupting both Rhodes and Gunther. These tensions ultimately led Rhodes to arrange a triple-threat match for the coveted title at the premium live event, scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia.
Matt Cardona Weighs In on Championship Clash
Reflecting on the impending championship contest, Matt Cardona offered his insights into Sami Zayn's mindset.
“Night of Champions, this Saturday, Sami Zayn, he has nothing to lose,” Cardona stated. “How many times has he been put in a similar situation and lost? If he loses again, no big deal, but that’s what makes him dangerous. He will do anything to win this match.”
Cardona then shared his personal preference for the outcome of the high-stakes encounter, revealing his own aspirations for the Undisputed WWE Championship.
“So, whether it’s Sami, Gunther, personally, I’m hoping it’s Cody because I want to be the WWE champion and if I beat anybody, I want to have beaten Cody Rhodes. People don’t know this, Cody’s last match before WWE before he left was against me and I beat him.”
The highly anticipated Rhodes vs. Zayn vs. Gunther clash is one of three championship matches scheduled for the Night of Champions card.
Other significant title defenses include Trick Williams defending the United States Championship against Ricky Saints, and Tiffany Stratton putting her Women’s United States Championship on the line against Jade Cargill.
Night of Champions is set to broadcast live this Saturday at 1 p.m. ET on ESPN.
