What President Donald Trump declared nearly two months prior — that Washington, D.C. would host the “LARGEST FIREWORKS SHOW IN HISTORY” — has now been officially verified by Guinness World Records this week.
Guinness World Records, on its website, officially documented the event, stating, “The largest firework display consists of 840,537 fireworks, and was achieved by Freedom 250 and Pyrotecnico, Inc (both USA) at an event organized by Event Strategies Inc in Washington D.C., USA, on 4 July 2026.”
A Grand Scale Celebration
The actual display, which captivated hundreds of thousands of onlookers on the National Mall and commenced just before midnight last month, faced initial weather-related evacuations. Despite these delays, a vast audience still gathered to witness the spectacle in Washington, D.C.
Preceding the pyrotechnic show, the president delivered an abbreviated address as part of the “Salute to America” celebration, commemorating the country’s 250th anniversary. Once it began, the fireworks presentation lasted approximately 40 minutes.
Interior Secretary Doug Burgum had previously elaborated in June on the extensive launch plan, noting the fireworks would be deployed from multiple sites due to the sheer magnitude of the display. He informed the Washington Reporter, “Normally the fireworks are set off right along here,” referencing the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. Burgum further detailed, “This year, because of the size and scale of the thing, there are so many locations where the fireworks are going to be going off, including barges.”
Setting a New Global Standard
Freedom 250, a public-private initiative, was launched several months prior by the White House, with the president serving as its chairman.
The previous global record for the largest fireworks display belonged to a megachurch’s New Year's Eve show in 2016, which featured 810,904 fireworks.
Alvarez added, “This historic display shattered the previous global benchmark and stands as a powerful symbol of unity, resilience, and pride as we begin our nation’s next 250 years. Freedom 250 is honored to have brought this moment to millions of Americans, and we thank everyone who made it possible.”
In a statement, the White House asserted, “No other president in history could have accomplished the incredible feat that President Trump did at our Nation’s historic 250th birthday celebration, which included an incredible air show, a record-breaking fireworks display, and an inspiring speech delivered before hundreds of thousands of American patriots.”
