New York Giants Aim to Ascend NFC East with Harbaugh and Dart at the Helm
Following a significant organizational overhaul, the New York Giants are looking to turn their fortunes around with veteran coach John Harbaugh and promising quarterback Jaxson Dart leading the charge.

The New York Giants are embarking on a fresh chapter, with seasoned head coach John Harbaugh now at the helm and second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart entering his first full season as the primary starter. After enduring several challenging years, the franchise is determined to reset its trajectory and emerge from the lower echelons of the NFC East.
The team experienced a particularly difficult 2025 campaign, concluding with a 4–13 record and missing the postseason for the third consecutive year. Despite the overall struggles, glimmers of a dynamic future emerged when rookie first-round pick Jaxson Dart took over in Week 4. His dual-threat playmaking capabilities brought an exciting spark, leading the team to upset victories against the Los Angeles Chargers and Dallas Cowboys.
However, the season was ultimately marred by significant defensive lapses and a recurring inability to maintain leads. New York suffered seven single-possession defeats and squandered five advantages of ten points or more. The mid-season dismissal of head coach Brian Daboll signaled the end of the previous organizational approach and initiated a comprehensive front-office restructuring heading into the offseason.
A New Era in East Rutherford
To cultivate a new organizational culture, the Giants made a pivotal move in their coaching search, successfully recruiting John Harbaugh, the long-tenured and championship-winning head coach of the Baltimore Ravens, to East Rutherford. This high-profile hiring was followed by the addition of Matt Nagy as offensive coordinator, tasked with designing a system specifically tailored to maximize Dart's abilities.
Roster Overhaul and Key Additions
The front office aggressively pursued talent in both free agency and the trade market to bolster the roster. Notable acquisitions included Isaiah Likely, a physically imposing tight end from Baltimore, and defensive reinforcements in cornerback Paulson Adebo and safety Jevon Holland. Concurrently, the team strategically parted ways with several depth players across the front seven and secondary. The wide receiver corps also saw significant changes, with a renewed focus on acquiring fast and versatile offensive weapons.
Offensive and Defensive Outlook
A sense of cautious optimism, coupled with the potential for high-ceiling performance, surrounds the Giants' current roster composition. The offensive scheme is expected to heavily leverage Dart's versatile dual-threat skills. He will be supported by star wide receiver Malik Nabers, who is returning from injury, and a tight end duo featuring Isaiah Likely and Theo Johnson.
The running game, featuring Cam Skattebo (also recovering from injury) and Tyrone Tracy Jr., is anticipated to provide crucial balance, especially with an upgraded offensive line anchored by Andrew Thomas. Nevertheless, the offensive line's ability to consistently perform remains a key question, as Pro Football Focus (PFF) ranked the unit 23rd in the league.
On the defensive side, the front seven boasts genuine star power. Edge rusher Brian Burns is coming off an All-Pro caliber season and will be paired with Kayvon Thibodeaux and a promising rookie pass-rush talent. With Adebo and Holland reinforcing a secondary that struggled with big plays last season, the unit possesses the talent to evolve from a liability into a formidable group. However, success in the trenches will be vital, as their defensive line is currently ranked 21st by PFF.
Analyst's Projections for the Season
One analyst believes that the Giants will experience immediate improvement under Coach Harbaugh's leadership. While not predicting a division title, which the analyst projects for the Cowboys, the expectation is for New York to achieve between seven and eight wins. The combination of Skattebo and Dart is anticipated to generate excitement, and a healthy Malik Nabers would further enhance the team's entertainment value. Despite lingering questions regarding the defense, it is anticipated that Harbaugh's influence will be most evident in that specific area. The analyst expressed a preference for the "over" on the team's win total.
Regarding individual player performance, Dart is projected to surpass a key statistical benchmark. After throwing 15 touchdowns in 14 games last season with limited offensive options, the analyst anticipates Dart will exceed 19.5 touchdowns this season, citing his improved supporting cast. While Harbaugh's coaching style often emphasizes the run game, offensive coordinator Matt Nagy has a track record of positively impacting quarterbacks. The analyst confidently predicts over 19.5 touchdowns for Dart, even suggesting taking the "over" on 22.5 touchdowns if alternative totals become available.
