Actor Kevin Bacon recently voiced his frustration on social media regarding a lost package of personal belongings, appealing to his followers for assistance in locating the items. The 68-year-old star, currently filming in Ireland, recounted a perplexing saga involving a major shipping service and a box of clothes that has seemingly traveled the world without reaching its intended destination.
The International Odyssey of a Wardrobe
Bacon explained that his decision to pack lightly for his work in Ireland led him to ship some older garments. "I don't buy a lot of clothes. I've had these clothes probably since the '90s," he shared with his audience. He opted to use a shipping company, which he described as rhyming with "BreadX," to send the box of clothing on September 26 from upstate New York to his filming location.
The journey, however, quickly deviated from its planned route. According to Bacon, the package initially went to Memphis before being routed to France. By September 28, it had arrived in Germany. The following day, September 29, the package was mistakenly sent to Israel instead of Ireland. The international detours continued, with the box traveling from Israel back to France on October 3, only to be returned to Israel the next day. On October 5, it reached Germany again, then was sent back to Israel on October 6.
The package eventually made its way to France by October 10, then to the United Kingdom, specifically England, on October 11. "Pretty close," Bacon noted. However, on the very same day, October 11, it departed the UK and finally arrived in Ireland. Despite reaching the correct country, the package has remained undelivered for five days, with the shipping service reportedly stating it is "unable to deliver it."
Sentimental Value and Customer Service Challenges
The award-winning actor expressed significant frustration with the situation, stating his inability to find a resolution. "I don't understand why. It's just sitting there," he remarked. A major point of contention for Bacon has been the difficulty in contacting a representative from the shipping company. "I can't get a person on the phone. I have not been able to talk to anybody," he lamented.
While acknowledging the obvious solution of purchasing new attire, Bacon emphasized the personal importance of the lost items. "I know what you're thinking: Just go buy some more clothes. And you're right. I could buy some clothes, but I want these clothes. I've had them since the '90s. These are like ... they have a certain sentimental value."
He specified that the package contained "old boots, old jeans, old hats," items he now wonders if he will ever see again. Adding to the urgency, Bacon noted the changing weather conditions: "It's starting to get cold here." His public appeal underscores the challenges many face with complicated shipping issues and unresponsive customer service, highlighting the personal impact even on well-known figures.
